Sick pay for the first three days is paid by the employer at a rate of 75% of the usual salary, provided that the employee has been employed for at least one month. From day four to ten, the rate increases to 80%. Beyond day ten, the government assumes responsibility for paying eligible employees, up to a total of 52 weeks.

Maternity leave

Mothers are entitled to leave totaling 56 days pre-birth and 56 days post-birth, with 80% of their salary paid by the Latvian government. An additional 14 days can be granted in the event of certain circumstances, such as complications in the pregnancy or giving birth to two or more children.

Paternity leave is set at 14 days, which must be taken within two months of the child’s birth.
