Key Elements of an Employment Contract in Bangladesh
When drafting an employment contract for employees in Bangladesh, the following key elements should be included:

- Employment contracts in Bangladesh are governed by the Bangladesh Labor Act 2006 and the Bangladesh Labor Rules 2015.

Employee Leave Policies
Sick days
Employees are entitled to 14 days of paid sick leave annually. A medical certificate is required to avail of this leave.
Maternity leave
Female employees are entitled to 16 weeks (eight weeks before and eight weeks after childbirth) of fully paid maternity leave.
Paternity leave
Currently, there is no statutory provision for paternity leave in Bangladesh.
21 Public holidays in Bangladesh
In 2025, Bangladesh observes 21 national holidays. However, employees are entitled
to 11 paid holidays, selected at the employer's discretion. Some dates are subject to confirmation.

NB - Although Bangladesh has 21 days of national holidays each year, employees are only entitled to take 11 of them off as paid holiday, and it is the employer’s choice as to which ones. Some of these dates are estimates and yet to be confirmed.
Termination Process
Termination due to physical or mental ailments entitles employees to severance pay.
However, those terminated for misconduct or criminal offenses are not eligible
for severance or notice.
Permanent employees must provide 60 days' notice; temporary employees must give 30 days
(skilled) or 14 days (unskilled).
Employers must provide 120 days' notice for monthly-rated workers
and 60 days for others, or offer payment in lieu of notice.
Employees with at least one year of service are entitled to 30 days' wages for each year worked.
Six months for clerical workers and three months for others.
