Annual paid sick leave entitlement is full pay for 14 days for all employees apart from newspaper workers (who are entitled to half pay for a period not less than 1/18th of the time that they have been employed). Medical certificates are required to receive sick leave.
Mothers are entitled to 16 weeks of fully paid maternity leave, eight weeks on either side of the due date.
There is currently no provision for paternity leave in Bangladesh.
NB - Although Bangladesh has 21 days of national holidays each year, employees are only entitled to take 11 of them off as paid holiday, and it is the employer’s choice as to which ones. Some of these dates are estimates and yet to be confirmed.
Employees terminated on the grounds of physical or mental ailments are entitled to severance pay. However, employees found guilty of misconduct or a criminal offense are not entitled to either severance or notice.
