Sick days

Employees are entitled to 60% of their salary from their employers for the first 14 days of sick leave. From day 15, the government assumes responsibility for payment, but employers are still required to collect medical certificates from the employees, retain relevant records, and make reports to the authorities.

Maternity leave

Paid maternity leave can be for up to 28 weeks (37 weeks in the case of multiple births), 14 weeks of which must be taken. The leave period must commence from between eight to six weeks before the due date. Payments come from social security and are at the level of 70% of the employee's regular salary (assuming that they have worked for at least 270 days in the last two years and made the required contributions to social security).

Paternity leave

Paid paternity leave is 70% of the father's regular salary for one week.

Termination

Termination Process

According to the standard termination process in the Czech Republic, employers must provide notice unless they have sufficient evidence to justify dismissal without notice.

Notice Period

Notice periods must be at least two months, beginning at the start of the month after notice is given.

Severance Pay

Severance pay is determined by the length of employment, with one month of pay due for each year worked (up to a maximum of three).

Probation Period

Probation periods are set out in employment contracts and determined by seniority. Two to three months are standard, although probation periods can be up to six months for the most senior positions.
